Recently I feel confronted with the relationship between domestic and natural spaces. As humans, we are constantly yearning to incorporate the natural world into our domesticated spaces whether that be through florals, textures, images, architecture; the ways are endless. Through my work I am currently trying to understand the connection with these two spaces through pieces that exist in interior spaces yet invoke feelings of the outside world. I am focusing on creating pieces that directly reference natural elements such as rocks or branches. There are beautiful parallels between layers in human experiences and the environment- the environment responds to change, as do ourselves. Sometimes this change is unnoticed, but not to the being. Bringing exterior space into the interior space is a relatively new goal for humans. We used to be so connected to the outside world that this wasn’t needed- there was no distinction, they were one and the same.
